Get an exit prevention strategy

A lot of sites don't have an exit prevention strategy.  Some have polls that pop asking what the user was after but nothing is actually keeping them on the site.

An exit prevention strategy is a great and potentially simple way of keeping customers on a site by enticing them with something they might want.  It could be a percentage discount, free delivery, or competition sign-up.

We can maximise the opportunity by only giving offers to certain customer types.  For example, customers who have items in their basket, return visitors who haven't yet purchased and customers who purchase quite a lot but haven't for an abnormally high number of visits (for them).

The above triggers do require some complex cookie or CRM development, but if correct they should help target people we want to convert and not people who just always browse.

To implement this type of strategy, companies like HotJar and Qubit are able to detect when people are likely to leave the site.  They can then serve the banner or promotion as needed.
